Test Engineer IIAustin, TX


Job Summary:
The primary focus of this position is to develop, validate and verify test cases for propietary technology while also providing oversite for supplier test case development. This will entail off shift engagement. The Test Engineer is responsible for planning the test approach and scope, writing test cases, executing test cases, recording and managing defects, and communicating issues, risks and status on a timely basis. May direct the work of other Test Engineers at ODMs. The Test Engineer is involved throughout the entire product development lifecycle, which includes planning and estimating the test effort, test coverage, reviewing requirements and compiling test results.



Responsibilities:
1. Comprehends and analyzes project requirements and specifications, provides test coverage estimates and oversees test plans and strategies.
2. Reviews and validates requirements and technical specifications, and participates in discovery meetings for assigned projects
3. Using a standard test plan template, creates the Test Plan document for assigned projects.
4. Independently writes and executes test cases utilizing standard test methods and tools.
5. Executes testing including Functional Testing, Regression Testing, System and Integration Testing, Automated Testing, and records and tracks test case execution and benchmarks. Analyzes test results to ensure existing functionality and recommends corrective action.
6. Utilizes automated testing tools to execute tests.
7. Records, tracks and regresses defects using standard test tools and provides basic metrics reporting on test execution and defects.
8. Communicates status, issues and risks on a timely basis.
9. Effectively collaborates with Technology Providers, Developers and ODMs to address project requirements, deliverables and any potential road blocks.
10. Provides test execution results and reviews them with the project team.
11. Identifies, mitigates, and drives project issues and risks to resolution.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
2. 2-3 years of experience in test case development for computer hardware and software.
3. Knowledge of Computer Testing Process.
4. Ability to apply testing methods and techniques.
5. Knowledge of automated testing tools.
6. Effective writing and communication skills.
7. Critical thinking skills (inductive, deductive and quantitative reasoning).
8. Ability to facilitate team meetings and manage ODM team members.
9. Ability to negotiate for the necessary resources and timeframe of testing activities.
