Cadbury Careers Vacancy for Senior Scientist

Open Innovation was assigned a permanent champion at Cadbury in 2007, on the recommendation of the Chief Technical Officer. Since then the team has grown in size, responsibility and renown to become a core part of the global Cadbury innovation process.

The Cadbury business model has always had its basis on innovation, underpinned by solid research and development. Our long heritage would not have followed the same path were it not for the strength of our global Science & Technology (S&T) function. With all of our prestigious history and scientific capability in mind, Cadbury is fully aware that we cannot achieve all of our innovation goals alone.

We are convinced that others have breakthrough ideas that we may not have thought of and as a result we have committed to Open Innovation and forming relationships with people outside Cadbury. In fact, you’d be amazed at some of the places we now look for key relevant innovations: fields as far away from confectionery as metallurgy and astronomy

Purpose
As a member of Gum and Candy Ingredient Technology Group, you will be responsible for the development of new technologies in areas such as ingredient evaluation, new product formats, and novel ingredient application, which can deliver product superiority, innovation, or cost reduction to our brands. You will provide technical leadership from idea conception through transfer to Product Development.

Accountabilities
 Identify & develop new technologies for application in gum and candy.
 Collaborate with external suppliers to evaluate new technologies.
 Design, execute, record, and interpret experiments on assigned projects to establish technology proof of principle, assess technology benefits and limitations, and optimize its application to gum and candy.
 Develop and manage project timelines.
 Collaborate with Research and Development colleagues in other functions (Analytical, Sensory, Process Development, etc.) and regional Product Development groups.
 Identify proprietary intellectual property for patent opportunities and work with the Legal IP group to protect them.
 Summarize project findings and prepare appropriate reports and presentations, and share findings across the R&D organization.
 Maintain awareness of trends in market place and seek opportunities for our business.
 Maintain awareness of new external technologies through literature and patent searches, supplier contacts, and other means.

Pre-Requisites
We are looking for creative scientists who are challenged by complex problems and who want an opportunity to explore their own ideas that can lead to breakthroughs in technology and improve our extensive and growing global gum and candy portfolio.
To qualify, you need an advanced degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Material or Polymer Science (MS degree at least 5 years of experience or a PhD with up to 3 years experience). You must demonstrate strong technical and critical thinking skills, plus solid verbal and written communication ability. Knowledge in areas of encapsulation, controlled release, confectionery technologies / ingredients, flavors, polymers, or emulsions is a plus. A technically creative, highly motivated person, with a proven track record of technical accomplishment, as evidenced by patents or other deliverables, is highly desirable.

This role is a SG 10.
