Purpose


The purpose of the role is to act as an integral member of the Legal team supporting the Australia & New Zealand (�ANZ�) Business Unit with a Marketing focus, including:
 
  • Providing support to the ANZ BU Marketing Team, including the management of legal issues relating to commercial launch projects and commercially led activity, working closely with the Senior Counsel;
  • Supporting management of intellectual property related issues in the ANZ BU;
  • Responsible for assisting the Senior Counsel manage the Marketing related portion of overall legal budget and management of external counsel in connection with that Marketing portion as well as delegated major projects;
  • Leading development of systems, processes and training for effective legal risk management relating to Marketing related activity;
  • Supporting other functions and business commercial activities as required by the BU Chief Counsel;
  • Assisting the BU Chief Counsel and the VP & Chief Counsel, Asia Pacific on local, regional and global legal projects as required.

Accountabilities

   
This position acts as an integral but autonomous member of a senior legal team that delivers a legal service, in a complex and fast-paced business environment across 2 countries (Australia and New Zealand). Success in this role will be dependent on having an agile, proactive, commercially focused and collaborative approach and an ability to build a network of internal and external contacts that will help to develop and execute the Company�s commercial objectives. 
The individual must understand all key aspects of the commercial business including areas of legal risk, and focus on the delivery of added value in the form of tangible or intangible value to business results.
The individual must possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Able to influence and communicate at all levels of the organisation, including the Marketing Leadership Team and global legal colleagues
  • Able to deal with ambiguity and manage effectively in a complex business.
  • Excellent project management skills, in particular, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to foster change
  • Able to work effectively and constructively as a senior manager
The incumbent will also work be expected to work from time to time with functional representatives at the Regional and Global levels, in connection with programs that have broader application across Kraft Foods. The incumbent must be business oriented and able to foster relationships at all levels in the organization and across functional lines.

Pre-Requisites

  • Law degree from a major university
  • Qualified to practice law in Australia (with a current practising certificate)
  • Minimum 4 years post qualification experience in-house or with a top tier external law firm in intellectual property or general commercial law
  • Impeccable professional and personal integrity background
  • Experience in procurement related matters and disputes including contractual drafting and litigation
  • Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills, fluent in English
  • Able to deal with ambiguity and manage effectively in a complex business
  • Project management competencies.
  • Able to influence and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and externally
  • Strong business acumen and experience
  • Excellent decision making ability
  • Creativity in balancing business and legal obligations
  • Uncompromising integrity and values, independent judgement
  • Exposure to FMCG environment preferred
