Duties and Responsibilities
The Chief Engineer is a key member of the Cluster or Integrated Account management team, together with the Delivery Executive, Account Program Manager and Project Executives, reporting to the Cluster Executive.


The Chief Engineer supports the cluster management team by providing the IBM technical framework and direction for the account and as the owner of the solution process from requirements definition to proposal presentation. The Chief Engineer prepares and promotes the architectural vision for the account, the framework which enables opportunities for Base Growth and coherence for solution architects and delivery competencies

The Chief Engineer role is a technology management role, consisting of vision, leadership and management responsibilities. The Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring outcomes are achieved with the expectation of delegating responsibility for producing many of these outcomes to Integration Architects or Solution Architects.

The Chief Engineer leads assist the Chief Architect by providing leadership to the team of architects, both dedicated and project based, assigned to produce solution designs on behalf of the customer. 

The Chief Engineer in concert with other Chief Engineers constitute a Council of Architects responsible for oversight of the A/NZ regional delivery architecture.

This role is “permanent” in that it exists for the life of the contract, beginning with transition in and ending at contract completion (or transition out)

Desired Experience:
As the lead Engineer for the cluster or integrated account, the Chief Engineer provides a focal contact for the customer where architectural questions, advice and outcomes (work-products) are required. The role encompasses –
1. understanding the customer’s existing architecture
2. ensuring the customer’s existing architecture is documented
3. participation in customer IT Strategy / Enterprise Architecture projects
4. ensuring the IBM Technology Plan is prepared
5. architectural governance
6. overall ownership of architecture of new solutions
7. overall ownership of the IBM solution design process (for all solutions), to the point where a costed proposal is presented to the customer
8. leadership and management of all architects assigned to the account

Technical Skills:
Tertiary Degree in IT or equivalent
Minimum of 10 years full time IT related experience
10 years experience as either a manager or team leader providing technical leadership
Significant, demonstrable knowledge across multiple platforms, technologies, processes and architectures.
Ability to provide and demonstrate leadership in technology solutions and infrastructure architecture.
