Organizational Context:

The role of the Office of the Director General (ODG) is to advise and assist the Director General in carrying out his duties efficiently and effectively in pursuit of the Organization's strategic goals.



In performing its duties, the ODG seeks to exemplify the Organization's commitment to its core values, namely: service orientation; working as one; accountability for results; and environmental, social and governance responsibility.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of the ODG and Chief of Staff, the Senior Advisor will work closely with the other members of the ODG team to perform the following principal duties:
Main duties:

(a) analyzing specific policy and organizational issues, and submitting recommendations to the Director General as required; preparing and reviewing documents and communications;
(b) supporting the effective communication and engagement by the Director General with Member States and other major stakeholders;
(c) facilitating consultation on procedural questions through liaison with Regional Coordinators and other Member States' representatives;
(d) contributing to effective internal communication through liaison with the Senior Management Team and managers;
(e) liaising with substantive Sectors to ensure that the Director General is appropriately briefed in preparation for all internal and external meetings; and that he is kept informed on developments which require his attention;
(f) representing the ODG at internal and external meetings;
(g) ensuring the timely processing of files for the attention of the Director General; contributing to the efficient management and quality of correspondence from the Director General;
(h) other administrative, representational and organizational tasks as required.

Education:

Advanced university degree.


Experience: 

At least 12 years of relevant professional experience, with a strong performance record, including experience in the areas of international diplomacy, policy advice and strategic planning, preferably in a developing country. Direct experience of the United Nations system an advantage.
Skills:

Broad knowledge of intellectual property issues, and a good understanding of the strategic objectives and activities of WIPO. Proven ability to master new subjects rapidly.

Knowledge of development issues in relation to intellectual property.
Proven organizational skills; ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure; ability to draft.
Effective communicator. Strong diplomatic or facilitation skills, demonstrated in an international context.
Team worker; able to inspire the confidence of colleagues in a multi-cultural environment.
Sound political judgment. Discretion and integrity.

Languages:
Excellent English or French. Working knowledge of other UN languages would be an advantage.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
80.629 USD (sans personnes à charge)
86.791 USD (with primary dependants) Post adjustment: 111.8 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
Additional Information:

Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.

* Initial period of two years, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance. No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment.

A written test and/or interview may be used as a form of screening.
