Group Leader, Core Process Development

Purpose
The Group Leader will lead the process development projects focused on new flavor development, renovation, and/or cost reduction of confectionery products (primarily chewing gum). Main responsibilities include initial technical assessments of new products/processes, managing complex projects focused on innovation and/or margin enhancement, defining scale up of new/existing processes, conducting pilot and production scale trials, and managing a team consisting up to 3 process engineers. The desired individual must be versatile, flexible, possess strong technical skills, and be capable of working proactively across multiple projects within the confectionery group. This position will be based in Whippany NJ, and will report to the Senior Group Leader of core process development.
Accountabilities
� Supervise up to 3 process engineers, including directing their project assignments, supporting their development and providing day to day supervisory support.
� Obtain a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of confectionery process science, and work globally across various regions and functions to ensure sufficient knowledge transfer.
� Ensure robust delivery of process specifications during product launch and commercialization.
� Represent R&D process on team�s projects in cross functional team meetings through the various commercialization phases of product launch.
� Conduct internal and external benchmarking to identify and develop advanced measurement/tracking techniques to improve process characterization.
Pre-Requisites
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BS or MS in Chemical, Food, or Mechanical Engineering with at least 6 yrs Industry experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
8 to 10 years of experience in process development with background in confectionery, ingredient or other food products with 3 yrs supervisory experience. Strong interpersonal, managerial and project leadership skills with an innovative mindset is a must. Cross functional experience (R&D and Manufacturing) and technical expertise in extrusion, food or polymer processes highly preferred.
