Job description
IT Specialists in this job role will install and configure HPC Cluster Management and Deployment Tools. They will have expertise in one or more System x/BladeCenter server technologies, including different hardware architectures and operating systems. Typical examples of the deliverables are building proof-of-concept solutions with server system technology and architecting server solutions to address client requirements. IT Specialists in this job role work with products or solutions based on any vendor hardware and/or any vendor operating system software including Implementation of x86 or Unix Servers (e.g., SUN/Solaris), Storage Systems (SAN, NAS, Direct Attach) 


Linux System Administration, Installation, Configuration, Deployment, Parallel File Systems, Network and Storage Integration (Infiniband, 1G/10G Ethernet, Fibre Channel switches. IT Specialists primarily apply their technical skills in an internal or external customer billable services and implementation environment. 
1. Perform technical pre-sales activities: qualifying customer technical requirements; developing an approach, identifying tasks, customer responsibilities, assumptions, prerequisites, dependencies, boundary of accountability, out of scope items; estimating the effort 
2. Perform technical preparation and planning activities: setting expectations with the customer, reviewing prerequisites, customer responsibilities 
3. Install and configure IBM hardware (e.g., iDataPlex, System x servers, BladeCenter, DS4000 storage systems), xCAT Management server, Deploy Linux OS, GPFS and cluster management software 
4. Assist with migration from competitive HPC environments (e.g., SUN/Solaris HPC to IBM System x Linux)
5. Manage customer engagements (e.g., status, on track, on schedule, on budget, technical quality, customer expectation management, customer feedback) 
6. Develop intellectual capital (checklists, technique paper, methodology, best practices) 

Preferred candidates with expert level skills in the following areas:
1. x86 servers (or Competitive platforms - e.g., SUN/Solaris) implementation and skills transfer, integration with network and storage environment
2. Storage (SAN, NAS) Implementation and skills transfer
3. Linux system installation/administration, networking, storage integration, internal boot and boot from SAN
4. Implementation of HPC Linux Cluster Management software and skills transfer
5. Customer facing / communication
7. Consultative best practices 
8. High Performance Computing Linux Cluster environment

Required
Bachelor's Degree
At least 1 year experience in Linux System Administration
At least 1 year experience in High Performance Computing Linux Cluster management
At least 1 year experience in x86 server implementation, network and storage integration
At least 1 year experience in Storage (SAN, NAS) implementation
At least 1 year experience in Client Facing Skill and experience
Readiness to travel 75% travel annually
English: Fluent

Preferred
Master's Degree in Engineering
At least 3 years experience in Linux System Administration
At least 3 years experience in High Performance Computing Linux Cluster management
At least 3 years experience in x86 server implementation, network and storage integration
At least 3 years experience in Storage (SAN, NAS) implementation
At least 5 years experience in Client Facing Skill and experience
Additional information
