The Operator Channels (OC) business, reporting to the Consumer Channel Group, is dedicated to driving and elevating Microsoft’s relationship with Operators across the world. With Operator Channels, Microsoft is placing a strategic emphasis on Operators as key go-to-market partners for Microsoft software, services and devices for share gain in Phone, TV, and Windows devices and Consumer and Business Cloud Services. We organize the OC business along the lines of Business-to-Consumer (B2C) - responsible for devices sold through operators (Windows Phone, Windows 7 PCs and TV) and Business-to-Business (B2B) - the B2B channel strategy encompasses a range of business offerings including Infrastructure, Applications and Voice that can be partner-hosted or Microsoft-hosted and supported by flexible, partner-friendly business models. The Operator Channels team is experiencing high growth and increased senior executives visibility given the strategic nature of the business for Microsoft and the Operators CxO level partnerships and relations.
As the Regional Technology Officer (RTO) for EMEA, you will report to the CTO of Operator Channels. You will be a key member of the CTO office. The CTO office is responsible for the technical direction, innovation and strategy of OC. This role has a very broad technology scope working very closely with key Operators in the EMEA region and collaborating with the OC Account Technology Officers, Operator Channel Solutions Center (OCSC), Business Groups, B2B and B2C OC groups, key partners and customers and key Telecommunication-related Industry bodies. You as the RTO for EMEA will ensure coordinated execution of technology sales and technology strategies and execution for the nominated key accounts in EMEA and will have some degree of shared revenue accountability. As a very senior technical role in EMEA, you are expected to lead the technical account engagement in strategic areas and meet the sales objectives and long-term growth goals.
To be successful, the RTO is responsible for external outreach and engagement with key OC accounts, partners and relevant industry bodies across the region and will support the fiscal goals, drive long-term technology strategies and product adoption. The RTO role is a particularly demanding role requiring both strategic focus, sales support, as well as a significant commitment to external engagements and relationship building.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
• Shared revenue accountability and execution of technology sales and strategies for nominated OC key accounts in the EMEA region.
• Direct engagement and manage technical relationship with key accounts CTOs/senior technical executives.
• Industry and standard bodies’ active engagement in the EMEA region and recommend/influence standards.
• External Outreach and technical speaking engagement on key events.
• Key contributor on emerging technology strategy and plans representing the key OC accounts.
• Lead the integrated technology showcases and Proof-of-concepts for selected key accounts and leverage the OC Solutions Center and Microsoft Technology Centers in the region. Showcases will use Microsoft Products and Services including but not limited to Cloud Services, On-premise private cloud interoperability with Microsoft Azure Public Cloud, Windows phone and Consumer services.
• Technology integration and implementation to support OC harmonized offerings using relevant current and V.Next products and services.
• Technology evangelism and presentation covering both current and future technology and trends.
• External industry bodies representation and involvement.
Desired qualification and experience
• 12+ years of senior level experience in technology. CTO/CIO work experience is highly desirable
• 8+ years of deep Telco Technology experience
• Deep Microsoft Technology experience particularly in the area of Cloud technology and phone applications and platform
• Degree in Computer Science or Engineering. Master’s Degree a plus
• Development experience and background is required
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute tactically around the technical, business, and cross functional projects
• Project Management Experience is required
• Speaking Engagement experience with very good presentation skills
• Member of telecommunication industry bodies is a plus
• Able to travel both domestic and international
• Strong relationship building and negotiation skills
