Job description
The Development Engineer (EIT) will work within the Planning and Development team in Total E&P Canadas Technology & Development division located in downtown Calgary. The positions primary responsibility will be to evaluate and prepare the Development Studies needed to define the basis for the execution of our operated projects: the Joslyn North Mine and Northern Lights. As well as partner operated projects: Fort Hills and Surmont. Under the guidance of Senior Engineers in the group this positions key activities will be:
- Promote and assure that best safety and environmental practices consistent with Total and industry standards are incorporated in the development studies to achieve TEPCA and Total short and long-term targets.
- Contribute to the preparation of Mining Development and In-Situ Studies with a focus on specific assignments related to the Mine, Tailings and Extraction components. This will include a critical review of our contractors and partners findings.
- Participate in studies to assess the implementation of new technologies:
- Keep up to date on technical progress/innovations in core fields (SAGD, Mining, Oil Sands Processing) and associated areas (Geology, Tailings, etc.)
- Develop the technical concept or contribute to some of its components.
- Develop cost and production profiles for alternative technologies.
- Participate in the development of reclamation and decommissioning studies to maintain updated TEPCA database of reclamation obligations.
- Develop and maintain updated cost and production profiles for projects, to support the decision making process.

Required skills
Education
- Bachelors degree in Chemical or Mining Engineering
Experience
- Industry related work experience is an asset
Skills
- Technically oriented individual with strong analytical skills
- Must be able to work in teams
- Demonstrated multi-disciplinary interest
- Effectively manage multiple tasks and be able to meet rigid time constraints
- Strong communications skills are a must
- Knowledge of the French language would be an asset
