Purpose
Ernest Jackson as a company dates back to the early 19th century. It is now operating within the medicated confectionary and food supplement markets globally, and is currently a standalone business unit within Kraft Foods Europe, primarily supplying hard boiled candy and gummy products. Over its history the company has developed expertise in delivering pharmaceuticals, vitamins, minerals and herbs in confectionary formats.
Due to the legal compliance with the food and pharmaceutical regulatory environments, scale of operation and ongoing support for the markets the company operates in, Research and Development is managed locally.

The role leads a Research and Development team of 3 scientists. Developing and improving medicated confectionary, vitamin, mineral and food supplements for own brand, contract and private label manufacture at Ernest Jackson Ltd for global distribution, to internationally recognized standards for foods and medicines in accordance with Kraft QCMS, cGMP, HACCP, ICH, MHRA, FDA, BRC guidelines and regulations.
The team encompasses formulation, packaging and analytical expertise to deliver a start to finish development service to the business to ensure growth of both Ernest Jackson / Kraft brands and to grow external customer business.

In addition to new product innovation the role manages/supports: 
Product and process change and improvement within the company. Management of Raw Material, Product, and Process, Specifications.
Management of Customer Product Databases.
Regional Liaison with Kraft COEs.
Provides expertise and guidance to other local business functions with respect to product, process and analytical issues.


Accountability
Manage product introduction and change to current portfolio to ensure compliance with HACCP and DSA.   Lead, manage and develop R&D team ensuring delivery of projects to defined timelines, within budgetary constraints.  

Ensure product (re-)development compliance to pharmaceutical or food legislation as appropriate.  

Liaise and collaborate with Kraft business functions inside and outside of Ernest Jackson.

Build and Develop team to ensure post succession and career development.
  
Pre-Requisites
Knowledge: including education, qualifications and training   

Degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy or a life science discipline Working knowledge of pharmaceutical and food regulatory environments cGMP / GLP Training Design Safety Analysis HACCP Training  Skills/Leadership Competencies  Decision Quality Creativity Drive for Results Delegation Hiring and Staffing Functional and Technical Skills Priority Setting Building Effective Teams   Experience   Several years experience in a product development management role within a Continuous Improvement focused Quality environment. Experience gained at Over-the-Counter medicine manufacturer or food company.
